Anti-Fans and Non-Fans

In der Ausgabe 6 (2003) 1 des International Journal of Cultural Studies ist der Artikel "New Audiences, New Textualities. Anti-Fans and Non-Fans" von Jonathan Gray erschienen, den ich mir über die FH besorgt habe.
Aus dem Abstract: "Intentionally or not, audience research often equals fan research, as anti-fans and non-fans are ignored or assumed. However, televisual anti-fandom and non-fandom involve different viewing practices, different proximities from the text and, thus, different textualities. This article therefore argues for the necessity of more research into anti-fans and non-fans, proposing that such research will shed further light on the nature of televisual textuality and on the role of media talk and intertextuality in forming it".

Gerade bei mir eingetroffen: DIY: The Rise of Lo-Fi Culture von Amy Spencer, erschienen 2008 bei Marion Boyars Publishers in London, "a well informed study that champions the unsung heroes and heroines of DIY distribution in art, music, literary zines and culture".

derstandard.at über Science Fiction

Gerade ist mir zum ersten Mal aufgefallen, dass derstandard.at innerhalb der Kultur / Literatur ein eigenes Science Fiction-Ressort hat - u.a. mit einem Nachruf auf Philip José Farmer, Buchbesprechungen und Links zu Websites über Science Fiction- und Fantasy-Literatur und deutschsprachigen Phantastik-Verlagen.

Practical guide to alternative literature

Ich lese gerade das Buch "Alternative Literature. A practical guide to librarians" von Chris Atton, erschienen 1996 bei Gower (zu einem eher prohibitiven Preis von 65 £ immer noch lieferbar).
Ist natürlich schon etwas älter und enthält kaum etwas Spezifisches über Science Fiction, ist aber nützlich für die Frage, wie Fanzines in Bibliotheken gehandhabt werden. Zitat: "Working with alternative publications is not easy: it requires diligence, personal investigation, networking and some good fortune. It may require positive discrimination and special pleading at the outset. Our own attitudes to what needs to be in our libraries may have to be changed, widened immeasurably" (S. 171).

National Library of Scotland sammelt Fanzines

"While most libraries, whether public or private, house a periodical section, few are likely to carry the handwritten Xeroxed pamphlets known as 'fanzines'. This vein of underground journalism has been a small but significant part of popular culture for decades, but is increasingly in danger of going extinct in the information age". So beginnt Christine Smith ihren Artikel Scotland Does Its Part to Save Planet's Fanzines vom 4. März 2009 über eine Fanzine-Sammel-Initiative der National Library of Scotland. - Siehe dazu auch den Bericht in der BBC.

Herzliche Einladung: Lesen auf der Enterprise

Der Aktionsradius Wien und die Wienbibliothek im Rathaus laden herzlich zur Veranstaltung "Lesen auf der Enterprise. Bibliotheken in der Science Fiction und Fantasy", die im Rahmen des Aktionsmonats "La bibliotheca total" stattfindet. Findom-Weblog "Partial recall"

Gerade habe ich über fünf Ecken das Weblog "Partial recall" von Tero Ykspetäjä über finnisches Science Fiction-Fandom entdeckt und dabei den schönen Begriff "Findom" kennengelernt. - Dazu gibt es auch Findom-Links und Findom-Blogs bei delicious.

Wieder ein formaler Schritt erledigt: Mein Thema taucht auf der Liste "Angemeldete Diplomarbeits- und Dissertationsthemen in der SPL10" auf, sprich, es ist institutsseitig genehmigt.

CfP: "Science Fiction across Media"

Die Tagung "Science Fiction across Media: Adaptation/Novelisation" wird von 28. bis 30. Mai an der Universität Leuven stattfinden. Den CfP mit Frist 27. Februar gibt's als pdf. Quelle: h-germanistik.
Aus der Beschreibung: "This conference wants to bring together scholars from science fiction studies, adaptation studies and literary studies to share their expertise and shed new light on science-fiction adaptations and novelisations. Besides film adaptation, there will be a special focus on the underdiscussed phenomenon of novelisation. Basically, novelisations are novels adapted from or based on a film, a TV series, a video game, or other media. In contrast to the more common adaptation process from book to film, novelisations are usually padded versions of screenplays. At least in its commercial or industrial form, a novelisation is released more or less concurrently with the film, as a marketing tool, in order to heighten visibility and awareness of the title. On the book market, however, the general public may easily confuse novelisations with novels adapted into films, as the latter are normally republished as tie-ins to film adaptations. As the study of novelisations and cinéromans has already progressed substantially in the French and Italian departments, this conference will be centred on English-language novelisations especially".

...gerade veröffentlicht auf fanfic de. Titel: "Die Löwin", Autorin: Lady Charena. Der Text spielt im Rahmen der Classics-Folge "Elaan of Troyius", auf Deutsch unter dem Titel "Brautschiff Enterprise" bekannt.

Fanzines: "picking up the stapler"

"Blogs are the cheapest, fastest and easiest way to get your music writing out there – but that hasn't stopped a new generation of writers picking up the stapler and putting out a fanzine", schreibt Simon Reynolds in seinem Artikel "How the fanzine refused to die" im Guardian.

Daheim bei Hoshi und T'Pol

Auf der Website Fanfiction auf Deutsch ist eine neue Enterprise-Geschichte eingestellt worden: "Daheim" (Teil 15) von - olli1a. Kategorie: FemSlash. Zum Anheizen: "Am Tag des Neujahrsballs der Sternenflottenakademie herrschte im T'Pol/Sato-Haushalt große Aufregung. Obwohl Hoshi mittlerweile offiziell T'Pols Untermieterin war und sie ihre Adressänderung auch im Personalbüro der Akademie angegeben hatte, würden sie heute erstmals als Paar bei einem offiziellen Anlass auftreten"...

Deutsches SF&F Fanzine Archiv

Beckinsale berichtet im SFCD-Blog über das Vorhaben eines deutschen digitalen Science Fiction- und Fantasy-Fanzine-Archivs (kurz DSF³A). Bei diesem Projekt geht es darum, "Fanzines, die es einmal gegeben hat – aber auch solche, die aktuell erscheinen – in digitalisierter Form zu bewahren und zur Verfügung zu stellen". - Siehe auch SFCD-Forum.

In my weekend-only world

Habe mir den Aufsatz "'In my weekend-only world...': Reconsidering fandom" von Henry Jenkins kopiert (erschienen in Robert Stam, Toby Miller (Hrsg.): Film and theory. An Anthology. Malden: Blackwell 2000, S. 791 - 799). Dann hab ich auf der Website von Howard Rheingold gelesen, dass dieser Text eh auch in "Textual poachers" drinnen steht ;-)

Ö1-Sendung über Lesen & Fan Fiction

Auf Ö1 lief gestern die Sendung "Lesen im Internet-Zeitalter" von Maria Mayer, bei der auch Fan Fiction thematisiert wird: "Das Internet hat neben der reinen Digitalisierungsfunktion auch eine kreative Seite für Leser. Es hat zum Beispiel zur Entstehung der sogenannten 'fanfiction' geführt. Das sind Geschichten, die Fans zu einem Medienprodukt schreiben, zum Beispiel zu Harry Potter - quasi ein 'Werther-Effekt' unserer Zeit. Fans geben ihrer Begeisterung dadurch Ausdruck, dass sie selber Geschichten als Fortsetzungen, Zufügungen oder Neuinterpretationen verfassen und sie online publizieren. Die Harry-Potter-fanfiction-Gemeinde ist die größte überhaupt". Dank Download-Abo schon auf meiner Festplatte, aber noch nicht angehört.

Star Trek auf Xing

Im Online-Netzwerk Xing gibt es auch eine Star Trek-Gruppe. Themen sind "Alles über sämtliche Star Trek-Serien und -Spielfilme, die zugrundeliegende Philosophie und Wissenschaft, Termine (TV-Sendungen, Conventions usw.), verfügbare DVD-Angebote und mehr". Ich bin gleich beigetreten und habe mal eine Rundfrage nach Fan Fiction-AutorInnen gestartet. Eine Mitposterin meinte, ich solle auch Online-Rollenspiele aufnehmen. Nach einigem Nachdenken muss ich sagen, dass man diese Form von Fanaktivität durchaus auch als Texte - wenn auch kollaborativ erzeugt - bezeichnen könnte.

Diplomarbeit über Harry Potter-Fan Fiction

Ich habe mir kürzlich die 2008 auf der Publizistik verfasste Diplomarbeit "'Unleash your imagination'. Kreative Fanaktivität im Internet - Harry Potter-Fanfiction auf fanfiction.net" von Christine Zejda ausgeliehen (leider nicht in Othes verfügbar). Von der Literaturliste her dürfte nicht viel dabei sein, das ich noch recherchiert habe, aber es gibt einige interessante Kapitel, wo ich noch nichts habe, zum Beispiel "Fanproduktivität nach John Fiske".
